We recently took a short trip up to the city of Little Elm to try out a popular local restaurant for dinner. Hula Hut overlooks Lake Lewisville in Denton County and is located beside another popular local business called Hydrous Wake Park.
Hula Hut is described as a “casual waterfront restaurant featuring surfer core and Tex-Mex with Hawaiian-inspired accents”. After visiting this restaurant, it certainly fulfills this description.
Little Elm is about a 45-minute drive from downtown Dallas and about a 50-minute drive from downtown Fort Worth. Hula offers beautiful views of Lake Lewisville is next to Hydrous Water Park which has a man-made lake that is often bustling with activity on their cable towing wakeboard tower system.
As you enter Hula hut from the parking lot, you instantly see surfboards and boats from each side of the entrance to the restaurant. The bold “Aloha” signage is located above the entrance door, making it hard to miss the waterfront/surfer theme that this restaurant is going for.
As you enter the front door, there is a check-in station located straight ahead and a merchandise section to the right.
The Hula Hut has indoor dining located next to the kitchen area for those that want a more sheltered experience.
As we walked to our open-air dining area, we walked through the interior dining area.
The restaurant was busy the night of our visit; it was bustling with activity. We enjoyed the music on their sound system as was were seated and waited for our waitress as we sat in the open air section of the restaurant overlooking Hydrous wakeboard cable park.
We set off to the left in this picture and you can see a bar area located in the far end of this image. There is a larger open-air area with a bar located next to the wakeboard cable park.
The view from our seating area was pretty cool if you ask us!
Our server arrived and gave us a menu and complimentary waters, salsa, and chips, and ordered some drinks.
The Hula Hut is not a 5-star dining experience, but that is not what it is intended to be. It is a casual theme based restaurant that is going for a relaxed dining vibe, and it fulfills that mission perfectly.
The items on the menu are priced affordably and are certainly budget-friendly and family-friendly.
Our food arrived shortly and everything looked well prepared and tasty. I had the veggie burger, my son had a hamburger (special ordered without lettuce, pickles, onions, etc.), and Kim had a soft taco.
The portions were generous and the hamburger patty was thick and tasty.
Our drinks were refilled promptly as we ate our dinner and we enjoyed each other’s company and watched hypnotically as the wakeboarders circled the wakeboarding park with continuous activity.
After dinner, we did a little more exploring of the sights and sounds around the restaurant. There is also a large deck overlooking a man-made pond.
You can take a stroll outside the restaurant and walk between Lake Lewisville and the man-made lake next to the restaurant and watch the wakeboarders ski around Hydrous Wakeboard Park and watch them jump and flip off the floating ramps.
Here are pictures of the water features around the Hula Hut taken from the Lake Lewisville side of the Hula Hut.
